Boone’s three-hitter quiets St. Joe 4-1

Seahawk senior Gage Boone twirled a three-hitter as the Franklin County Seahawks varsity baseball team downed Port St. Joe 4-1 March 22.

Boone lasted six innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out nine and walking zero. Sophomore Cody Abercrombie threw one inning in relief, recording the last three strikeouts to earn the save.

Jentzen Odom took the loss for Port St. Joe, as the sophomore hurler lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out two and walking one.

The Seahawks manufactured four runs in the third inning on their way to the victory. 

The Seahawks tallied eight hits on the day, two each by junior shortstop Evan Stanley, who also had two runs batted in, and by senior second baseman Will Varnes. Abercrombie, junior Dane Mallon, senior right fielder Garrison Cook, and senior outfielder Larry Winchester all cranked out hits, Mallon and senior Blakely Curry each drove in a run.

The Seahawks fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-2 loss to district rival Bozeman Friday night. Bozeman opened up the scoring in the first inning, with a pair of runs, and duplicated the feat in the top of the second.

The Seahawks managed a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Mallon and Stanley each had an RBI. Franklin County’s two hits came off the bats of junior Chase Crum and Boone.

Abercrombie took the loss for the Seahawks, as the southpaw surrendered four runs on six hits over four innings, striking out four. Stanley, Crum and Varnes each pitched an inning, with Crum striking out two in his effort.

Bozeman racked up eight hits in the game and didn't commit a single error in the field.

The Bucks upped their record to 10-1, undefeated in district play, while Franklin County dropped to 8-2, and 2-2 in the district behind Bozeman.
