Lanark fire department seeks volunteers

Posted

Hi Y'all,

Until further notice, during a circulation transition period, there will be no newspapers in our boxes on the east side of Franklin County. The publisher is looking to find someone to put them in boxes around the county.. I will try to give you a heads up by Facebook or a note on the box.

For those who enjoy reading a newspaper, you can order a subscription by calling 850-653-8868 ext. 1221 or go online to franklincounty.news . I will continue to see that Lanark receives events and meeting information in a timely manner. You can find my article under the “opinions'' category.

A big shout-out to the residents who realized the importance of not leaving their garbage cans on the county right-of-way for periods of time and thank you to the person who put a reminder on their cans.

There was a very important meeting Monday, July 18, at the annex in Apalachicola at 5 p.m. concerning the St. James/Lanark Fire Department. I was not able to get the news to you with my article last week and not able to give you important information this week. If you did see the notices, Facebook, etc. I hope you were able to attend. With the long distance to travel and the prices of gas I realize that it is hard for you to get to these meetings. I will make every effort to get the highlights to you.

This meeting was for leaders from the Florida  State Firefighters Association to meet with the community of Lanark district and the Carrabelle Water and Sewer District) to learn about their concerns, what the county hopes to accomplish, and how we can start to rebuild. To show the coordinator that we have capable, willing people to immediately start forming a healthy volunteer fire department. Hopefully, we can have the meetings with the Franklin County fire coordinator in Lanark, or even Carrabelle. This is an important issue for all of the area. We all care about our district, but finally having help from those who know how to run a fire department we will be able to pull it together. If you know anyone who would be willing to become a firefighter let us know. We are desperate for volunteer firefighters.

There will be a Q & A Candidate Forum on Saturday, July 23 at 5 p.m., at the American Legion Post 82. All three candidates - Commissioner Bert Boldt, Cheryl Sanders and Chris Crosby - will be there to answer you questions. You will submit your question at the door. If you can, bring a 3 X 5 with your question written on the card. At the forum at Chillas we picked up a lot of good information about each candidate. The Public is Invited and there will be a meet and greet, with light food, after the meeting.

Wine Down Wednesday is hosted by the Lanark Village Association every Wednesday at Chillas Hall. Cocktails at 5 p.m. (BYOB of anything) and a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. Lots of good socializing. This event is open to all adults in the Lanark area. Come get to know us, you will like us! Thank you to all of our new friends who came.

BE BEAR WISE, Get Help, Report Conflicts, Know the Laws, 850-265-3676 and www.myfwc.com/bear. They are out there. Short-term renters, please advise your guests to secure garbage and you be sure to supply a secure place for garbage. We don't want it spread all over Lanark. Thank you!

Love Lanark!
