LVA celebrates Cinco de Mayo with party

Posted

Hi Y'all,

The Lanark Village Association organized a pop-up party at Chillas Hall to celebrate Cinco de Mayo evening. Several of our residents pulled together a nice celebration with decorations, food and drink and lots of visiting. Stay tuned, we might try to do this more often. It was a fun time had by all who attended.

The Carrabelle City Commissioners has voted 4-1 to pass the building of the Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store which will be in the main tourist area. Some of you wanted to preserve that area for something more in keeping with the quaintness of Carrabelle and others wanted another low budget store to shop in. It is too late to put safeguards into effect to keep this from happening, but somehow maybe the city can save the charm in another way.

On a more positive note, the county commissioners have finally made a move to try to turn the St. James/Lanark Fire Department around. As it stands now, the commissioners have passed on the taxpayers’ funds to the Carrabelle Fire Department temporarily to serve the Lanark area during this transition. The commissioners will be sending out notice for Franklin County to bring onboard a qualified fire department coordinator to help reorganize the St. James/Lanark Fire Department into a healthy fire department for our area. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Commissioner Boldt at 850-519-4966.

The Lanark Village Golf Club will have a meeting on May 12 at 6 p.m. at Chillas Hall. Please join us to hear what plans we have for the coming season. Join the club and let us know your thoughts. All interest is welcome. Nola Tolbert, the club president, will be giving lessons on the course on May 13 at 10 a.m. To play a little golf and learn a lot will cost only a donation of $5. Come have some fun!
