Seahawk Shocker: Softball team shuts out #9 Wakulla

Posted

Backed up by power from her teammates at the plate, Franklin County freshman pitcher Sarah Ham hurled a three-hit shutout in Crawfordville Tuesday night, as the  Seahawk softball team surprised Wakulla County 7-0 .

The War Eagles, ranked ninth in the state in Class 4A,  were held to a double by freshman Jenna Cross, and singles by junior Laina Wester  and freshman Elizabeth  Austin, as Ham  struck out three  over seven innings of no-run ball.

A bases-loaded double down the left field line to the wall off the bat of sophomore Taylor Mallon handed the Hawks a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

"Taylor has hit the ball well all year and leads the team in several offensive categories," said coach Scott Collins.

"Sarah pitched her best game, we played stellar defense and got timely hits," he said. "It was a big win and a well-played game all-around.”

Three more Seahawk runs in the top of the fourth, and a final run in the top of the seventh, secured the win.

Eighth grader Lexi Webb, who went 2 for 3 at the plate, drove in a run, as did freshman Ryan Brown, who went 3 for 4 at bat. Each scored a run as well.

Sixth grader Addyson Mallon had one hit and scored a run, and freshman Raegan Dempsey had a hit and scorfed two runs.
