After opening the season with three straight losses, both the varsity and junior varsity Lady Seahawk volleyball squads scored their first wins of the 2022 season with victories over the Rutherford Rams.
Coach Tara Klink’s varsity squad had opened Aug.23 at home by falling 3-0 to Wewahitchka, by 25-19, 25-12 and 25-21 scores. The JV contest was closer at 2-1, with the Lady Seahawks falling in the opening game 24-22 and then winning the second 26-24 before losing the third 16-14.
Then on Aug. 25 at home, the Seahawk varsity girls lost to Rickards, falling in three straight games, 25-17, 25-8 and 25-13.
On Aug. 30 at Wakulla Christian, the varsity fell 25-23 and 25-5 before coming back to take the third game 25-19 before losing in the fourth game 25-19.
On Aug. 31 at home against Rutherford, the losing streak was snapped, beginning with the junior varsity winning in two sets. Freshman Loesch and eighth-grader Jayla Creamer led the game in aces, with Creamer also posting three kills to seal the victory.
The varsity squad won their game in three straight sets. Senior Skylar Johnson led service points with nine aces. Sophomore Maleah Bell had eight kills, followed closely by Johnson and sophomore Ryan Brown.
The teams have a busy week ahead, playing on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Rutherford and then hosting Liberty County Monday, Sept. 12 at The Nest. On Tuesday, Sept. 13 the squads travel to Wewahitchka, and then on Thursday, Sept. 15 are at Port. St. Joe.
